Director of Product Design, Platform

As we build more products and services, we are looking for a Design Director for our Platform Team. A good fit for this role has experience in building centralized capabilities that can be leveraged across multiple products (think onboarding, conversations, inbox, notifications, identity, and workflow automation), which are core to enabling our customers to collaborate in compliance and security workflows. You have a consistent track record of leading and hiring efficient B2B design teams with consumer-grade quality craftsmanship at scale. You will thrive at Vanta if you are an opinionated design leader who is a true builder (of both teams and products), enjoys ambiguity and complexity, and values autonomy to shape the strategy for an optimal and efficient customer experience. You know how to articulate and deliver business value and enable your teams to do great work. To achieve great outcomes for the platform, you need to partner with other teams, orient around customer needs, understand the technical challenges that come with scale, and know how to be opinionated to achieve the right results with your Product Management and Engineering counterparts to execute a vision that enables Vanta to do more than what we see today. The design organization is responsible for delivering great experiences for the suite of products in compliance and trust management to build a more trusted internet. We care about customers, craft and business to ensure we are meeting and exceeding expectations, where it matters. You’ll also be a thought leader shaping our design practice as we continue to rapidly scale the organization. This role will report to the VP of Experience Design. What you’ll do as a Director of Product Design at Vanta: - Lead Design for our Platform organization, providing visionary leadership and strategic direction. - Lead multiple teams to develop and deliver cross-platform solutions that are intuitive, flexible, and provide substantial customer value. - Oversee the design and implementation of shared primitives, components, and features to ensure consistent experiences throughout the Vanta platform. - Shape and articulate the long-term design vision for the Platform team, aligning scalable and innovative feature strategies with broader company objectives. - Establish a design roadmap that balances both short and long-term company goals. - Collaborate with executive leadership to advocate for and implement design-driven initiatives with significant impact across the organization. - Foster a design-centric culture that prioritizes user experience and customer satisfaction. - Be accountable for the full employee life cycle across all teams, including hiring, onboarding, goal alignment, work assignment, coaching, performance management, developing managers, and addressing resource gaps. - Hold teams accountable for making decisions that benefit both the company and its customers. - Manage and develop experienced individual contributors, ensuring they grow and excel in their roles. - Collaborate closely with the Design Systems team to ensure that all Platform work not only adheres to but also enhances and extends the design system with confidence and consistency. How to be successful in this role: - 10+ years of design experience, with extensive work on complex B2B SaaS products. - 5+ years of management experience, leading design teams. - Evidence of designing high-quality B2B enterprise capabilities leveraging common UX/UI patterns. - Experience working with an existing design systems team to ensure consistency and quality. - Show consistent ownership mentality by taking full responsibility for decisions and actions. - Build strong relationships with a variety of stakeholders to drive better outcomes. - Make decisions prioritizing Vanta’s best interests using well-rounded, objective data to seek the truth and achieve the right outcomes for the company. - Exhibit passion for leading, coaching, and building an inspired team through setting vision, unlocking potential, and driving compassionate accountability. - Proven track record of producing designs that impact the business through hands-on work, leading teams, and influencing internal stakeholders. - Demonstrated use of qualitative and quantitative data, leveraging subject matter experts’ knowledge to impact customers and business metrics. - Make outcome-focused decisions effectively balancing ambiguity, available data, speed, and iteration. - Have a deep curiosity about emerging technologies and a strong enthusiasm for cybersecurity. - Ability to establish a vibrant, opinionated, and inclusive design culture. - Provide a portfolio showcasing work produced by their teams and/or operational practices they have implemented. We set standard base pay ranges for all roles based on function, level, and country location, benchmarked against similar-stage growth companies. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors, including candidate location, skills, depth of work experience, and relevant licenses/credentials, and may vary from the amounts listed below. The base pay range for this position is $225,000 - $265,000. This role may also be eligible for commissions/bonus, equity, medical benefits, 401(k) plan, and other company perk programs.
