When attending an event or meeting in person, your primary office location will be based out of Sims Square, 390 Brant St, Burlington, ON. Work location is subject to change at the discretion of the City due to operational demands. Position Overview The Manager, Experience Strategy and Design role exists to champion and ensure the deliver of exceptional user experiences across all digital touchpoints within the City’s services. The purpose of this role is to lead the development and execution of experience strategies that are intuitive, accessible, and resonate with the diverse needs and preferences of stakeholders. By employing design thinking methodologies and fostering collaboration across teams, this position plays a pivotal role in driving the organization’s digital transformation, ensuring that user experience remains a central focus in enhancing engagement and satisfaction. This role embodies the commitment to elevate the quality of interactions users have with digital services, making them more user-friendly, efficient, and inclusive. Responsibilities This role is responsible for: Leading the planning, development, and execution of strategies focused on enhancing user experience across digital platforms. Includes conducting user research, identifying pain points, and leveraging insights to design accessible, intuitive, and engaging digital solutions. Providing strategic leadership across multidisciplinary teams involved in digital projects, influencing decisions and integrating UX principles. Championing the integration of design thinking into project workflows to encourage innovation, problem solving and a user-focused approach to digital solution development. This responsibility includes training sessions, workshops and guidance on best practices. Providing mentorship and thought leadership, influencing teams across the organization to adopt user-centric methodologies. Building and maintaining strong relationships with stakeholders, including department heads, IT professionals, and users, to gather feedback, algin objectives, and ensure that digital strategies meet the diverse needs of all parties. Acting as a liaison, facilitating communication between technical teams, design teams, and stakeholder groups. Regularly analyzing user interaction data, conducting usability testing, and gathering user feedback to identify areas for improvement. Implementing changes to enhance the usability, accessibility, and satisfaction of digital platforms. Ensuring that all digital content and interfaces meet or exceed accessibility standards, advocating for best practices in digital inclusivity, and staying abreast of legal and technological developments in digital accessibility. Providing guidance and setting standards for development, design, and content teams, ensuring compliance with accessibility laws and guidelines. Requirements You have a post-secondary degree with a strong emphasis on Information Technology, design, or business plus minimum of five (5) to seven (7) years progressive work experience in a complex IT environment. Knowledge and certification in areas related to user experience, such as Masters in UX Design, certification in Design Thinking, or courses in accessibility standards are considered an asset. To excel in this role, one must demonstrate exceptional leadership and influence to guide multidisciplinary teams and champion user-centric methodologies. Effective communication and strong collaboration skills are essential for building relationships and aligning objectives. Empathy and user focus are crucial for understanding and advocating for user needs, supported by creative problem-solving and innovation to enhance digital solutions. Adaptability to emerging trends, mentorship abilities for providing guidance, analytical thinking for data-driven improvements, and meticulous attention to accessibility standards are all necessary. Finally, a strategic vision is key to developing and executing user experience enhancement strategies across digital platforms.
