As a Principal UX Designer on the Data Experiences team, you will act as an accelerant, helping articulate the strategy and design for our internal data products and experiences. You will bring together and synthesize both familiar and forward-looking design for data practices for our partners across the business and help deliver clear and explainable data tooling and visualization. This work will allow you to innovate around design patterns that directly impact millions of customers via key financial, analytics, data science, ML, and operations systems. Whether working directly with data scientists on predictive models or realizing the necessary approach and structure of interactive information design, this role will help shape our direction when it comes to producing explainable UI, AI, and ML models that users understand and trust. Our goal is to streamline the B2B encounter with data informed decision-making processes and bring a consumer software grade sensibility to every Partner and Associate at Walmart. We want to optimize the data experiences that enable us to enable millions of households and families to save money and live better. You’ll set the vision for best enterprise data experiences practice and create a space for cross-functional colleagues to collaborate. You’ll set structure and context for the design team and they’ll look to you for your expertise, empathetic approach, holding your work as the standard. You are a systems thinker who has an aptitude for anticipating problem-solution loops with partner teams, can facilitate conversations, create concepts, run design sprints, build and deploy rapid prototypes to leverage the collective creativity of a fast, stakeholder-rich environment. You’ll employ your great strengths in storytelling to present your vision and product design rationale in a compelling, convincing manner to the wider team. While working with partners to determine a shared plan forward that balances business and technology considerations, you will create and champion an experience that is highly engaging and usable and deliver pixel-perfect detailed design, shoulder-to-shoulder with your team. In the Principal role we expect… An ability to communicate concepts in a clear and compelling way to audiences of all levels of understanding and levels of seniority. Excellent interaction, visual and prototyping skills with a keen understanding of trends in design practice. Adeptness at leading user research (both qualitative and quantitative), forming a design strategy and influencing the product roadmap for your team. Comfort with thinking at a high level about product strategy and articulating that vision to the broader team. Deep experience with business requirement gathering, end-to-journey mapping, facilitating sessions like Design Sprints, conducting competitive analysis, and leading rapid concepting and prototyping. Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to articulate the rationale behind your design decisions. Designers look to you for expertise in crafting scalable systems and managing stakeholders. A self-starter mindset, well organized and always looking to improve things. Experience defining processes and frameworks for the design team and your cross functional partners. You’ll sweep us off our feet if you have... Domain experience in data, analytics, or AI tools…and a keen eye towards industry trends. A demonstrable understanding of enterprise data ecologies and deep exposure building experiences that can drive coherent and user-friendly utility. A strong design aesthetic, paired with excellent visual and interaction design skills; you can bring data to life in a familiar and compelling way. Comfort with ambiguity along with an ability to motivate teams and partners. Ability to consume deep strategic data and insights to produce meaningful experiences for business partners and associates. A demonstrable track record working cross-functionally with shipping successful products in a fast-paced B2B environment. A strategic mindset and systems thinking approach to embracing complex information and interaction design problems, transforming and delivering them as simple and delightful experiences. A knack for connecting the dots across the organization with other related initiatives across the company while driving collaboration. Preferred qualifications: Degree in HCI, Information Architecture, Digital Design, Graphic Design or similar and 7+ years of experience in UX design. The annual salary range for this position is $143,000.00-$286,000.00 Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses.
